What's Up Hawaii?

Good Morning and Aloha everyone! Di here with another blog and another week gone by! How fast time flies! How is everyone in the Hawaiian Life community today? This week's blog will be on the lighter side! Enough with Mother Nature for now! She needs a break! We have some Hawaiian birds that have been added to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. That is a really good thing, because all of our wildlife is precious and important, and if we can have more protected, that is just more birds that will be around a lot longer. Also, do you remember the series Hawaii Five-O? I do! Being a kid in the seventies, I grew up watching that show. I've always had a love for Hawaii, since birth, lol so I loved that show because it was filmed in Hawaii! That, and the fact it was just good TV and well written! Well, it's coming back, and I'm just a little excited over that fact! ;-) Also, Mike has another interesting article on endangered species in Hawaii! Here's a link to it! Aloha!

What's Up Hawaii?

Aloha everyone! It is Monday and time for another look at what is going on in Hawaii. I hope everyone is well. For the people in Chile, my heart goes out to you all after a devastating 8.8 earthquake that hit your country. To everyone that had experienced the tsunami that came afterwards, I am also thinking of you all. That tsunami hit many places. Luckily, even though it was heading right for the Hawaiian Islands, the damage was minimal. It got me thinking though, about other tsunamis that have affected Hawaii and the Islands, so this week I've done an article on six of the tsunamis that were particularly destructive in Hawaii. Also, I'm including a related article on this very thing, tsunamis, from Mike! ;-)

What's Up Hawaii?

Aloha everyone! Di here with another look at what is up in the Aloha state! I hope you are all doing well. I've decided today, to write about The Hawaiian Islands Tropical Moist Forest. A few of Mike's quotes over the weekend were about nature, and that inspired me to write about something in that category today. Well, that and almost 60 degree temperatures yesterday. The two combined, brought out my love of nature. A nice distraction from all this snow we have gotten over the past three months or so here in Virginia.

Good Morning everyone! Aloha! What does that word Aloha mean to you? Well, it is a beautiful word, and no one tells it better than Mike. The whole Hawaiian language is beautiful. I always end my Blog with Mahalo, which means Thank You. I appreciate you reading my Blog and feel it is only appropriate that I tell you so. The language IS just that, beautiful. The word Aloha has many meanings. Here is the link to another of his interesting articles. Hope you enjoy it! Aloha...

What's Up Hawaii?

Good Morning everyone! Aloha! How are you all this week? I hope this weeks blog finds you are all well and enjoying life! A very talented local historian, Bob Dye, passed away Friday night from cancer. He had a fascinating career, and will be dearly missed! On a totally different subject, my son introduced me to Pistol Shrimp. They are quite interesting and in the waters of Hawaii, so I'll share an article on them as well.

What's Up Hawaii?

Aloha everyone! Here we are again with another month gone and into the next. We just got 15 inches of snow dropped on us Saturday and although beautiful, it's time for a little Hawaii to melt away the snow. ;-) I hope this blog finds you all well and hope you all have a terrific week. The Mighty Mo is back where it belongs, so I'm going to talk about that and with endangered animals showing up way too often, Hawaiis Monk Seal Pups are also declining.

What's Up Hawaii?

Aloha everybody! How are you all today? It's that time again for another look at what is going on in the Aloha state! Time sure goes by fast. I would like to mention how very important it is to continue to help the people of Haiti. The devastation that has happened to them leaves me sad and speechless. There was a telethon on Friday which most all channels including cable channels televised. It was a global benefit for Earthquake Relief.

What's Up Hawaii?

Aloha everyone! I hope this week's Blog finds you all well, but it's going to be a sad entry this week for I can't do the Blog this week without talking about the catastrophe in Haiti. It is such a horrible situation, and something that will take a long time to recover from. Even after donating, you feel like it is so little compared to the magnatude of this tragedy. We all need to help. Haiti is such a poor country & they need our help more than they ever have. We are all human beings, no matter what our skin color or religion or political view are, we are all the same, people. If our country, god forbid, was hit with the same magnatude damage as theirs, wouldn't we want help from wherever we could get it?

Transforming HawaiianLife.com

Slowly getting the site worked into something more useable and fun for those that share a Love for the Hawaiian Islands and have joined in on the site. I would like to hear you imput, what you like, what you don't and what you might like to see on the site. I know I have a list of changes I'm working toward, but I would like to hear from those that visit the site.

What's Up Hawaii?

Aloha everyone. Another Monday, another Blog! Time just roles right on by. I hope you are all doing well. I went up a number in age over the week. Funny how that happens! ;-) They say, you are only as old as you feel! Thank goodness for that. lol Well this week if you still have that Christmas tree around, there is a good way to dispose of it. The high surf advisory is now a warning for all of Hawaii! Also, one of the prettiest places on Oahu, Hanauma Bay, is tackling a jellyfish invasion!
